Solitude

I wrote this poem when I was a teenager. My life was pretty miserable
then, so this poem portrays that.

For most solitude is pain,

For me solitude is peace;

Peace from the war between

myself and the world.

For most solitude is mute,

For me solitude is calm;

The calming of a thousand

voices screaming and mocking

throughout the years.

For most solitude is insanity,

For me solitude is health;

Health for a mind being slowly

sickened by the strangling presence

of others.

For most solitude is prison,

For me solitude is sanctuary;

Sanctuary from the masses who

slowly are gaining on me.

For most solitude is pain,

For me solitude is peace;

The final peace for a tired

and war-weary soul.
